Itinerary


Your Costa Rica adventure begins! One of our representatives will meet you at the Juan Santamaria International Airport to take you to the hotel.
Depending on the time of your flight, you will have some free time to enjoy the hotels amenities like pool and gardens.
 
Overnight at Wyndham Herradura Hotel

Once the transportation pick you up from your hotel, you’ll go through a lovely mountain scenery to Boca Tapada, in the northern zone of Costa Rica, just 15 km from the Nicaraguan border. A private boat will take you to the Maquenque lodge one of the world`s top eco-destinations and extremely rich in flora and fauna. The tree houses are located more than 12 meters high in amazing trees in the rainforest giving an outstanding view over nature and everything that surrounds it!
At night join a unique guided experience and visit the gardens and the hotel´s forest, where you can watch some animals such as alligators, frogs, nocturnal birds, snakes, and spiders among other species. Our Naturalist Guide will give you information on the flora and fauna in the area.
 
 Overnight at Maquenque Lodge. (B, L & D)

Early bird watching tour in the tropical rainforest with over 410 bird species, including some migratory species. Some of the species that can be found in this forests are: Great Green Macaw, Scarlet Macaw, some toucans, Oropendolas, honeycreepers, Tanagers, Euphonias and Jacamars, just for mention! The tour takes approximately two hours.
 
At 9:00 am you will depart from the hotel´s pier, where you board a boat and begin the trip downstream on the San Carlos River. During the tour you can see crocodiles, tortoise, bats, herons, kingfishers, king vultures, and many more species. Very close to Nicaragua border, we will stop to visit the small town of Boca San Carlos, where you will have the opportunity to visit the village, and meet and share with some Costa Rican people.
 
Overnight at Maquenque Lodge. (B, L & D)

Enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest traveling to Tres Amigos River by raft. Some species you may observe include: green macaws, scarlet macaws, toucans, aquatic birds, different species of monkeys and crocodiles.
At afternoon enjoy an amazing tour and explore the area by the traditional Costa Rican way – on horseback. A local cowboy (Sabanero) will take you to the tropical rainforest, where you can appreciate a unique scenery and stunning wildlife. We stop near to a beautiful tree, that is the usual nesting place of the Great Green Macaw (endangered species), and then we will visit a small village called Santa Rita where we’ll take a break and have the opportunity to experience the Costa Rican lifestyle with some local people.

After enjoying a delicious breakfast in the restaurant El Paso de Las Lapas, you’ll depart to the tropical rainforest within the hotel´s property, where you will begin a trek of 3 km (about 2.5 hrs.), during this tour it is possible to observe a great variety flora and fauna in the area, while your Naturalist Guide explains everything around. Also, you will visit the Botanical Garden, Medicinal Garden, closing the tour at the Hotel´s Garden.
After the checkout continue to the Arenal Observatory lodge, perfectly positioned directly between the colossal Arenal Volcano and deep blue Lake Arenal. With 870-acre (352-hectare) of property, through primary and secondary rainforest, past waterfalls and across verdant pastures. Plenty of wildlife lives in the area, including three kinds of monkeys, anteaters, coatis, raccoons, deer, and more than 400 species of birds.
 
Overnight at Arenal Observatory Lodge. (B)

Explore rainforest, waterfalls, streams, 11 kilometers (7 miles) of trails, and see an amazing wealth of wildlife. The walk departs from Reception every morning at 8:30 a.m., and lasts approximately 2.5 hours.
The walk takes you across hanging bridges, through lush tropical gardens, and into primary and secondary rainforest. The guide will stop along the way to point out any wildlife and to tell you about the plants and trees of the tropical rainforest that you are seeing. Your destination is the beautiful jungle waterfall of the Danta River. The walking tour finishes by our cattle pastures, where a comfortable, open-air “Jungle Bus” will bring you back to the hotel. Possible wildlife sightings include many of the 400+ species of birds in the forest, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, spider monkeys, coatis, anteaters, sloths, green iguanas, snakes and insects.

Overnight at Arenal Observatory Lodge. (B)

Today after the check-out take a trip that combines comfortable door to door minivan transfers with a fun and scenic cruise across the peaceful Lake Arenal, where you will experience lovely views of the majestic volcano and the forested Tilaran Mountain. You will also have the opportunity to see a variety of wetland birds such as king fishers, fly catchers, waders and other exotic species that abound on the lake shore.
 
Overnight at Monteverde Cloud Forest Lodge. (B)

Today you’ll visit the Curi Cancha Private Reserve in Monteverde to search for the elusive Resplendent Quetzal! The guide will have you looking for camouflaged animals in the wild like praying mantis, caterpillars, butterflies, spiders and bats. The Curi Cancha Reserve is a peaceful and amazing place to visit.
Most people really like this reserve because it is known to be quieter than the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and you are bound to see different types of birds and animals. Look out for birds like Trogons and the endangered Three-wattled Bellbird, animals like Agoutis and Coatis are very common and even reptiles like snakes that you don't usually see on the other reserves in Monteverde. The trails are well-maintained covering a range of cloud forest and rainforest with many large epiphyte-festooned trees.

After check out, take a shared transfer from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio, passing by other beautiful beaches such as Jaco.

Overnight at Tabulia Tree Hotel. (B)

Today after breakfast you will participate in a hiking tour to visit Manuel Antonio. This national park is one of the most renowned in our country due to its wide variety of flora and fauna. The park has 3 different trails that go from flat to very steep. On this tour a very knowledgeable nature guide will walk you through the Manuel Antonio National Park, explaining the mysteries of the rainforest. The trail you will take is flat and picturesque and loops through the park making your course about 2 miles long. Throughout your hike your guide will stop and teach you about the park’s natural history, which include exhaustive descriptions of animals and plants that can be observed during the hike. Along the way, you can take pictures or just admire the view. One of the highlights of this tour is that Manuel Antonio hosts 3 of the 4 existing tropical primates (monkeys) living in Costa Rica. Half way through the hike, you will enjoy a leisure stop at the world wide famous Third Beach. Once there you can rest on the beach or play with the waves. Throughout the hike is common to see sloths, birds and reptiles as well as admire orchids, butterflies and tropical trees.

Note: The Manuel Antonio National Park is closed on Mondays.

At afternoon you will take a cruise into the open sea, in search of spotted dolphins, migrating humpback whales, sea turtles and manta rays. While aboard our modern Catamaran boats, you will be captivated by the sight of frolicking dolphins in the boat’s wake, or the inimitable sound of a whale’s song. As you make your way down the coastline of Manuel Antonio National Park, the enigmatic islands, jagged cliffs and rock formations will look almost close enough to reach out and touch. These are the nesting grounds and home for numerous species of marine birds, including pelicans, boobies and ibises.

After touring the coastline, we will anchor in a protected cove within the pristine Biesanz Bay for an unforgettable snorkeling adventure in the warm pacific waters, observe the underwater playground for over 50 species of colorful tropical fish. Afterwards, come back on board and enjoy the delicious lunch. You will discover the true meaning of the word Eden, as you relax on the boat in the serene bay, surrounded by the lush green landscape and the soothing sounds of the ocean.
