One of the most popular spots in the Nicoya Peninsula, in Guanacaste, is Santa Teresa Beach, located in the southern side of the Peninsula.
Santa Teresa Beach is a white-sanded beach relatively close to Montezuma and Mal Pais. Best known as a world-class surfing beach, Santa Teresa’s weather makes it especially suited for surfing at any time during the year, with the best months between April and December.
There are multiple surfing spots in this 5-mile beach, but you can practice a lot of other touristic activities such as Hiking, horseback riding, Snorkeling, ATV tours and canopy tours in the Cabo Blanco Reserve.
When you are in town, there’s a huge offer of hotels and accommodation for different budgets, you just have to look for the one that suited all your expectations! There are also many restaurants specialized in costarican and international food. You can visit pubs, clubs, and there are many services to be found, such as banks, supermarkets and drug stores.
To get to Santa Teresa, you can take the Ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera Bay if you are coming from San Jose. The trip takes 65 minutes through the Gulf of Nicoya, and it is a relaxing trip with scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and small islands that serve as habitat for several bird species. The driving distance from Paquera to Santa Teresa is around 40 miles; you may require a 4×4 vehicle! It’s a whole new driving experience.
