After Christmas time, one of the main Costa Rica attractions, and probably the biggest party of the country wait for thousands of visitors: the Palmares Fiestas, which has become in one of the most popular activities for Costa Rica population.
This small town, between Alajuela and San Ramon, is well-known because of the best fiestas and horse parade in Costa Rica during January. Palmares becomes in a crowded and full of happiness place for two weeks due to local and foreign visitors who put the fiestas on the first place of their top ten things to do in Costa Rica after New Year celebrations.
The Palmares Fiestas will begin the second week of January. The event is visited every year for thousands of tourist from many countries who take advantage of cheap travel packages to Costa Rica that travel agencies offer to enjoy Christmas and New Year parties in the country.
The parade of lanterns and the Palmarin Soccer Cup, two very popular events, officially open the Fiestas, which have a special place on the top of the Costa Rican calendar. The activities will begin on January 11 and will extend to January 23.
As the last years, the Fiestas will include concerts, dances, cultural shows, fireworks, local food, Costa Rican-style bullfighting and the traditional horse parade, named the Tope, among other attractive activities considered between the best Costa Rica tourist attractions.
For major concerts (some of these free) organizers bring to the country some well-known international artists. This time singers like the Cuban “Pitbull” and the famous Mexican “Pepe” Aguilar have been announced; and of course, as always, some of the best Costa Rican musicians and artists will be part of the activity.
The fiestas of Palmares are organized by the Asociacion Civica Palmarena. This association was created to raise funds for community development, and to help some local charity institutions for children and older people, among other benefits.
