Trogon Lodge is a farm of 105 acres, located at an altitude of 7000 ft (2200 mts) above sea level. This is the perfect hideaway for nature lovers, birdwatchers and those wanting to get away from it all.

The cozy and relaxing ambiance of the Lodge, makes you feel at home away from home. The misty and beautiful surroundings provides a unique opportunity to enjoy the views and sounds of the cloud forest, as well as discover the wonders of Costa Rica's unspoiled ecology. The clean waters of the Savegre River run through the property with its waters on an endless travel through the rocks. One can feel right in heaven going to sleep with the nearby sounds of the river waters. The river hosts a large population of Rainbow trouts and is a supply of potable water to the area.

The hotel features comfortable rooms all with private bathroom and hot water. For our guests comfort, all feature a heating unit specially necessary on the area's chilly nights. All feature a view of the Savegre River or the forest.

General Description

This ideal place for birdwatchers and nature lovers is located in San Gerardo de Dota, near Cerro de la Muerte, one of the Costa Rica.s highest peaks. Approximately 60 miles southeast of San Jose the drive takes about 2 hours. At an altitude of 7000 ft above sea level, the property is surrounded by a private cloud forest. The 22 wooden standard rooms and one junior suite have a heating unit for cold nights and a porch. The lodge features a family style restaurant, bar, resting areas and conference room. The hotel has a farm of 105 hectares. It possesses a nursery of trout, where once reached the ideal size, they move to the pond which is in the front of the restaurant, where applies a rule "if you catch it, can eat it", and the cook will prepare it. "El Quetzal? Restaurant serves all three family-style meals.
Special menus for diabetics, vegetarians or any dietary restriction may be arranged, when informed in advance.
A favorite is the fresh trout specially prepared by our chef, caught from the trout pond at the lodge.
Menus for groups and incentives, served buffet style, can also be arranged

Information

If arriving on own, guests can always join us in one of our daily tours (optional & extra), lead by our in-house guide. Tour options include:

Early morning bird watching tour: From 6:00 to 8:00 am, the resident guide will take you on a walk in search for birds, specially Resplendent Quetzals. This is the best way to wake up to nature! During the walk, you might become one of those lucky people to spot this beautiful bird.

Nature trails tour: Select from one of our 3 different nature trails. They all vary in length and difficulty. Trail #1 and #2 head east, being #1 the longest. Trail #2 heads west and finishes in the San Gerardo de Dota road.

Waterfall Tour: This is a half day tour. The entrance is located at 2 km from the Lodge and from here, the fun begins!. Walking through the Forest, you will reach the impressive waterfall.

Horseback riding tour: A minimum of 02 hours is required. Ride along the beautiful Valley of San Gerardo de Dota and discover the area.

You can also enjoy self-guided tours, relax in the rocking chairs around the property watching the spectacular view and close to the Restaurant you will see how many species of Hummingbirds come to greet you.

How to get there

Due to its location, visitors to Trog?n Lodge can either arrive on their own (either by rental car or a company transfer) or may choose to take one of tour packages that include the services of transportation.

Trogon Lodge is located in San Gerardo de Dota, near Cerro de la Muerte, Costa Rica's highest peak. The drive takes approximately 02 hours from San Jos? heading southeast in the Pan-American highway. As one drives up, marvelous views appears before your eyes, carrot & potato plantations, the country side, and on a clear day, general overviews of the Cartago Province and Valley.

Policies

Children policy: On our "Quetzal Quest" packages children 0-4 years old are free of charge and children 5-11 receive a 50% discount on the package price. Rates applicable only when sharing room with 2 adults. Maximum 2 children per room.

If travelling on own, and require lodging only, children 0-11 are free of charge in room when sharing with two adults. They must pay full rate on meals, tours & transportation.
