The philosophy at Tango Mar is to provide a friendly, relaxed and attentive service. Staff is carefully selected and groomed to anticipate the needs of our guests and will do whatever possible to guarantee an unforgettable vacation. International gourmet cuisine, Costa Rican specialities are carefully prepared by master chefs.
Breakfast and dinner are served at the "Cristobal" Restaurant, overlooking the ocean with a casual yet romantic setting. This nice restaurant is decorated with bamboo and furnished with fine Cristobal wood.
Before dinner enjoy a tropical cocktail at our "Tango" Bar, or our new oceanside deck (above). For lunch and refreshments at the beach or poolside, the new Rancho Grill "El Pirata" throughout the day serves drinks, cocktails, sandwiches, salads and light meals of your choice (below).
or special group events, let Tango Mar's Catering Service dazzle you with a beautiful buffet spread, catered picnics and drinks service. A favorite is the Pirata Beach Palapa at night for your wedding reception or special gathering. Let us arrange a band or disco for you.

The Beaches of the Nicoya Peninsula Tour
We will leave Tango Mar at approximately 8:00 a.m. by four-wheel drive and will use the dirt roads to get to Play Manzanillo. We will pass the towns of San Martin, Playa del Carmen and some other beautiful beaches along the way and end up at the Mal Pais Caverns.
In San Martin we will find an almost white beach and will use some time to explore the beaches and find a few spots for swimming and snorkeling.
Play del Carmen will welcome our surfers with some huge waves.
Sunset Bird Watching on the Pochote Mangrove Tour
At 4 p.m. our boat will pick you up from Beach and enter the river at Pochote. You will be able to see and to listen to some of the hundreds of types of birds including Blue Herons and Kingfishers.
While our boat drifts down stream you will experience the sights and sounds of a real mangrove estuary.
We'll be entering the bay once again and head to Hart's beach for a sunset cruise across the bay.
The sunset here on the Pacific is a very special experience.
Curu Adventure Tour by Boat
This tour is a must for nature lovers.
First, you will sail out from Tambor Beach.
Our captain will take you along the beautiful coastline of Bahia Ballena (Whale Bay), where you will see breathtaking cliffs and ancient caves. Pay attention to the alligator shape of these mountains.
You might even see some whales, dolphins and turtles on your way to Curu.
On your way back from CURU you will stop by the sunken steamer "BANANA EXPRESS".
This former German steamer is an ideal spot for snorkeling. You will be able to see some magnificent tropical fish and other water creatures.
THE CURU RESERVE is a working farm and is operated by the same Costa Rican family for many generations. In CURU you will be able to hike and explore some of its amazing flora and fauna. There is a large variety of wild animals that live there in their natural habitat and coexist with the plantations and cattle farm.

Curu Biological Reserve
We will leave Tango Mar at approximately 8:00 a.m. and use a four-wheel drive to visit the Curu Biological Reserve. This private resort is owned by a Costarican family which will guide us through some of the primary and secondary forest and explain the flora and fauna of the region.
On the way to the reserve we will pause in Tambor (right) and Valle Azul which are some typical small towns of the Nicoya Peninsula and take in some of the day-to-day life of the villagers.
Curu Biological Reserve is a privately owned reserve, maintained in its natural state, with selected trails to wildlife viewing areas and a private beach.
Deep Sea Fishing Charter Tour
This 7 to 8 hours trip takes you on a exciting all-day fishing expedition.
11 to 30 miles out you will fish for Marlin, Sailfish, Dorado, Wahoo, Tuna and Mackerel on one of the modern twin-engine sport fishing boat completely equipped with the latest in sport fishing gear. Up to 4 passengers.

Sunset Champagne Cruise
We offer a romantic sunset champagne cruise which is ideal for honeymooners or for just about anyone in a romantic mood !
Our captain will sail you along the beaches of Tambor and Bahia Ballena and while you sit back and relax , serve you an ice-cold bottle of sparkling champagne with some exquisite hors d'oeuvres. Close your eyes and listen to the sounds of a real mangrove estuary with its exuberant wildlife while our bout drifts down stream.
After enjoying the champagne, you enter the bay once again for a memorable sunset cruise.
We'll be happy to prepare you a delicious dinner with your catch.
Coastal Sportfishing Charter Tour
This half day sport fishing tour takes place aboard a 20 ft. 85HP fishing boat and takes about 5 hours. Right off Cabo Blanco you will fish for Dorado, Wahoo, Tuna and Mackerel and will have a good chance of seeing sea turtles, dolphins, huge rays as well as whales (during January and February).
If you bring your catch back home, we'll be happy to cook your favorite fish.

Tortuga Island
Snorkeling Adventure Tour
At approximately 7:30 a.m. we will board our boat in Bahia Ballena. You will enjoy a relaxing cruise and watch the sea birds and jumping fish while we cruise out of the Bay on our way to Tortuga Island. You may see dolphins, whales and sea turtles along the way. We will pass a shipwreck and a magnificent rock archway carved by nature.
Once you get to the island, you can snorkel and see lots of coral, a large variety of tropical fish, oysters and octopus. The flora and fauna is stunning and is nature at its best ! You can enjoy a stroll along the gorgeous white sand beaches and be able to rent kayaks and other water sport equipment.
If you book the afternoon tour you can enjoy an amazing sunset.

Montezuma Canopy Adventure!
The tour leaves from Tango Mar at 8:00am. At 8:45am you will get to Montezuma Village, then our driver will lead you to the first of 11 platforms, nine cables, for you to experience a unforgettable adventure, take a look at the unique wildlife & birds up in the trees. There is a so much nature to see and enjoy, and a great adventure, also!.
The "Real" Sunset Beach Tour
We leave Tango Mar at approximately 2:00 p.m. in a four-wheel drive.
We will travel along country roads to the rugged and wild beaches of Mal Pais and go on to San Miguel Wildlife Station. Mal Pais with its usually large waves is an excellent location for surfing. This area with its white sand beaches, also offers some of the greatest spots for snorkeling.
The sunsets here are spectacular and some of the most beautiful in Costa Rica.
The tour includes transportation and the canopy fee.
How to get thereBy Air
A short 25 minute flight takes you to the Tambor Airport, which is located just 5 miles (8km) from Tango Mar.
This service is served daily by 2 companies.
Also, private flights can be arranged.
Transfer between Tango Mar and Tambor Airport cost US$7.00 per person per way.

By Car
Drive for approximately one hour and thirty minutes from Juan Santamaria Airport to Puntarenas.
Take the ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera, in this relaxing top of one hour and fifteen minutes you can see the Gulf Islands, birds, dolphins, etc.
Once at the other side, Tango Mar is only a short forty minutes drive on a paved road, through mountains, forests, charming towns and panoramic ocean views.
Special service from San Jose to Tango Mar
A shuttle service can be provided from San Jose; to Tango Mar hotel.
You are picked up at your hotel in San Jose; and drive 2 hours to Puntarenas, second largest port of Costa Rica. There, the driver puts you on the ferry that takes you to Paquera in one hour and fifteen minutes. In Paquera, we pick you up with our van and drive you in approximately 40 minutes to Tango Mar.
