Costa Rica celebrates the environment
At Costa Rica, “go green” is a subject that has been taken very seriously. It has become one of the things you must do in Costa Rica.
The “Universidad de Costa Rica” (UCR) prohibited the regular car traffic through their campus at San Pedro, one of the places with most activities in San Jose, Costa Rica, in order to celebrate “one day without smog”.
Transportation environmental friendly was all that was allowed to enter the campus. There were skates, all types of bicycles, electric vehicles, along with ecologic races, walks, dances and plays.
Even if there were a few that didn’t understand the message and arrive to the center with their cars, this year there were more people than last years, contributing with the environment.
One of the students stated that it was wonderful that the UCR dedicates a whole day to the environment. She has learned a lot on how to care for the environment from home.
Besides the UCR, there were more centers celebrating the environment. The Centro Cultural de Aduanas at the center of the province was the stage for dozens of institutions to show their “green stuff” and confirmed what they do to help minimize the environmental impact.
Also, it was the stage to transform waste into art. Kids had the opportunity to create dolls and many other ideas, people enjoyed the curtains made of plastic bottles and listened to experts talking about responsible waste management.
The Instituto Tecnologico de Costa Rica (ITCR), in Cartago, a place with lots of attractions in Costa Rica, gave workshops with the purpose of making awareness over the importance of recycling.
Plus, the Earth students planted trees in their surroundings and the Incae workers and students shared their vehicles at the carpooling day.
These are a just a few of the events going on for the “go green” attitude. Costa Rica expects more events through the week and hopefully for the rest of the year.
This time is a great travel deal to Costa Rica to be part of the go green attitude.
