The definition of Rural Community Tourism

The definition of Rural Community Tourism has an inner circle of planned tourist sustainability experiences integrated in a rural environment. These experiences are developed by the locals, organized to benefit of the community.

According to us, rural tourism is more than that. Rural tourism is a bunch of activities which main goal is to improve the quality of life for those who develop these kinds of projects. Its autochthonous sense allows the 100% income to stay in the family or the community that uses this idea.

Costa Rica as a rural country in essence grew in this matter thanks to our famer’s determination. It is this reason that does not let in any way to forget our roots. Based on recovering the history, traditions and customs Rural Tourism generates employment and a better life because the business is the most important for the developers and all people involve.

Rural Tourism needs more support from those who face the business enterprises and those who take the decision to promote Costa Rica. This can be done through a deeper development that intensifies the support and participation of the different activities that show the value of Rural Tourism.

With the creation of the new law “Ley de Fomento al Turismo Rural Comunitario” (Rural Community Tourism Encouragement Law) the National Chamber of Rural Community Tourism was created in order to impulse this sector.

The big role of the Rural Community Tourism now is how it is facing the economic isolation. The impulse that Rural Tourism gives to business skill development, the capacity to stop migration from the country to the city, the high value of the local culture, the development of new infrastructure, the promotion of natural resources conservation, among others are the main reasons to comprehend the importance of this segment in the tourism sector.

We congratulate all public or private initiative that pretends to strengthen this area, because all the economical problems and the recession is when the businesspeople use all their capacity in creativity and innovation to make the hard times softer, with the creation of new products to attract not only different kinds of tourists, but to continue in the worldwide lead that we have had over the years.

The contribution of the businesspeople and community leaders has been very important. There is no doubt that we will have great news from Rural Community Tourism in the years to come.
