Costa Rica Jungle and Rainforest Safari

One of the most unique properties in Costa Rica, the Rafiki Safari Lodge is a South African inspired luxury tent camp set amidst dense rainforest just outside Quepos (Manuel Antonio). The lodge is nestled on 700 acres, deep within the pristine Savegre River Valley. This unique rainforest ecosystem is located 30 kilometers south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast.

Sit back and take in the magnificent vistas from your rocking chair while sipping on a tropical beverage from the "Lekker Bar". While you are lounging, the kids can enjoy an incredible waterslide that will keep them busy for hours. Rafiki has over 350 species of birds that can be seen on the property, so don’t forget your binocs! To tie it all together, the Boshoff family will treat you to a South African "braai" (barbeque) accompanied by a wonderful dinner prepared by a local chef.

Jungle and Rainforest Safari

10 luxury safari tents are situated on hardwood decks and were imported from South Africa. These are designed to connect guests with nature yet keep the insects at bay. Fully appointed, finished bathrooms connect to each tent. Although you may be far removed from civilization, staying at Rafiki is hardly roughing it! For love birds and honey-mooners, we have a special tent with its own outdoor fire-heated Jacuzzi.

Rafiki specializes in adventure tours in the Savegre Valley. The activities cater specially to the guests and can accommodate the tamest at heart to those seeking the thrills of adventure. Horseback tours, hiking, birding, and white-water rafting are the primary activities, but the combination tours are where Rafiki distinguishes itself from others in the business. A biologist runs the tours and teaches guests about the flora and fauna seen on the property, thus again separating Rafiki from standard adventure outfits. Service on the tours is first class. Hot grilled meals are served on the river and full bathrooms are provided at the lunch spot to make guests feel comfortable to enjoy every minute of their trip.

Mangrove Forest
A hidden world, accessible only by boat, these flooded forest are the largest untouched mangroves to be found in Costa Rica. Home to nearly a 100 species of birds, including the endemic mangrove hummingbird (found nowhere else on earth) the entire region is a twitcherís paradise.

Heron waders, owls, parrots and shore birds use this area as an important nesting and feeding ground.

Wildlife is prolific, with an abundance of reptiles including Caimans, Crocodiles, tree frogs boas, iguanas and river turtles. Mammals are also very common, and you will very likely see three species of monkeys (Howlers, Squirrel, and White Faced Capuchins) as well as Sloths and Coatis.

Mangroves are especially important to the regions ecology, as they provide nurseries for fish and shrimp. Without such forests, there would be very little life in the oceans.

Take a tour with our experienced naturalist guides, and venture into a beautiful maze of canals and rivers, as we search for the regions fascinating wildlife from the comfort of our boat.

There is no need to walk; this wildlife watching at its best. Sit back and enjoy the mangroves in comfort, let our boat be your legs and our guide be your eyes and enjoy a most interesting tour of the Osa.

Tours are approximately (4 to 6 hours), departing from the Aguila dock traveling for 25 minutes to the mouth of the mangrove estuary. We begin our exploration of the hundreds of small rivers, lagoons and hidden channels that exist there.

Come and join us on one of the most enjoyable tours to be found in the whole of the Osa Peninsula.
