Costa Rica Jet Ski

Jet Ski Experience

“On. Off. Acelérate.” I like this Jet Ski already. It’s so straightforward even a monkey could drive it, and now with the operating instructions under my belt, I’m ready to rumble.

Popular for their speed, versatility and huge fun factor, jet skis are ideal for touring remote coastal stretches that are impossible or difficult to access by land. On this half-day tour we are setting off from the beach at Playas del Coco and heading northwards past the Papagayo Peninsula to the boundaries just outside of Santa Rosa National Park.

Jet Ski Costa Rica

Costa Rica’s Pacific coastline is made up of cragged and weathered  volcanic rock that provided dramatic backdrops against the morning’s piercing blue skies. After half an hour or so of big bumps and bracing spray, we turn into a bay protected from the ocean swell and enter a calm river running through a mangrove.

Mangrove environments make up much of the greenery around sheltered streches of tropical coast. They grow in shadow waters and look like forests on stilts with their intricate root systems.
They support unique ecosystems, including many marine and bird species. The jet skis handle the narrow waterways with much more ease than larger watercraft and we manage to coast a good distance upriver before we turn around and burst back out into the deserted bay with a succession of high-speed looping runs.

This is an active and invigorating coastal tour that is fun and varied. Taking you from open seas to bays and rivers, and from secluded shores to popular beaches there is plenty of room in good measure for both adrenaline and relaxation.

Tips

*Be careful. Keep well away from the shore and swimming areas. Jet skis are fast, powerful, and heavy. Collisions are the most frequent cause of injury and death so always be on the alert for swimmers, turtles or other watercrafts.

*Leave early. Avoid the brunt of the seasonal Papagayo winds by going on your tour as early in the day as possible when conditions on the water are usually calmer.

*Turn it off. Personal watercraft are quick and agile, but they are noisy end tend to scare off the local wildlife in rivers and mangrove areas. Stopping and turning off your engine for a few minutes will help you hear and see much more.

Tour Description

The guide commences the tour out to the open sea where there is space for the clients to safely familiarize themselves with the skis, and begin a search for dolphins and marine life.Though the sea doesn’t give any guarantee, they very frequently encounter dolphins, different types of fish and birds, and occasionally a few other surprises. As the tour rounds Punta Quepos, they make a stop in front of Isla Larga to discuss and view the coastline, the islands, the wildlife and the current surroundings. From there the group makes its way down the coast towards Isla Oloquita, where they make another stop to see the famous Isla Verde, and the mouth of the Rio Naranjo.

The guide then leads the group around Punta Catedral and down the Manuel Antonio National Park coastline towards Biesanz Bay.  Here they make a brief stop to swim,  snorkel (water visibility is variable depending on season),  relax and enjoy some fruit and water prepared by the guide in this beautiful, temperate cove.

The final destination of our adventure follows the Playa Doctor coastline to view the marina, and finally back to the port where our crew is ready to help everybody board the platform.  Our taxi boat will transport the guests back to the pier approximately 2 hours from departure time.  There will be a taxi waiting to transport the guests back to their hotel.
